Scripture Union Daily Guide 9 June 2024 Outline:
This second aspect of the priesthood ordination involved the sacrifices of two rams. One was for a whole burnt offering and the other was for the ordination offering (vs.18,23). The ordination seemed to tie the priests to their altar in that instead of purifying the horns of the altar with the blood on Moses’ finger, he anointed their right ear lobes, the thumps of their right hands, and the big toes of their right feet, and then splattered the rest of the blood against all sides of the altar (vs.22-24).
The rest of the rites of ordination can be found in vs.25-36. Note the post-ordination retreat or “detention” at the entrance of the tabernacle. For seven days the newly ordained priests should stay at the entrance. The Lord so made it mandatory, with death penalty attached to convey the importance and solemnity of their ordination. Sure, their total welfare, including feeding and sleeping must have been taken into consideration (vs.31-36). By this, what importance do you think the Lord attached to His priests having a personal, intimate fellowship with Him throughout their ministry pilgrimage?
